The Visual Novel Log

I have a special interest in Visual Novels, focusing more on eroge within this genre. This will be a safe space for me, a place I can talk about these stories without judgement.

Visual Novels are already prety heavily stigmatized, not even considering Eroge. people say they wish they weren't so "dirty" and would be better without the sexual content.

Even though I may not enjoy all of the content in these stories, it's a shame these stories are seen as inferior for having such content in them... It's usually a core part of their identity!

These stories are very interesting, and the sexual content doesn't take that away. It still has it's place when it's a storyless nukige. I appreciate them all.

All of that is to say that there will be discussions of mature subject matter here. Upsetting and explorative. Please exersize caution if you are sensitive to these kinds of topics.

The Log

Novels are added with no order. The most recent logs are on top, just because I'm lazy... Eventually, I want to rank them in some way... This also isn't my full list of read novels. (I read a LOT. again, i'm just lazy...) Right now, I am playing Katawa Shoujo.

Euphoria

Rereading this novel was something on my to-do list for a while! I just finished my replaying (as of September 7th 2024) and I really really liked it! I really like most of the girls, and while there were scenes that were not my taste at all, there were a few scenes I could enjoy! Euphoria is pretty famous for being "the most disgusting VN of all time" but to be honest I don't really think it's that bad. There *are* options to disable the scat visuals, ahegao alts, and gore. That doesn't erase a lot of the shocking content, but I'm pretty sure most people were just put off by the poop. (which is understandable lol) I tend to read games as-is though, just because I feel as though I'm missing the intended experience!!!
The story kind of was a slog at times though. Only 2 of the routes are actually worth anything to the plot, and so it feels kind of boring to read the other routes first and spend hours having NOTHING about what's happening get explained.
I will say the ending left more to be desired too. Leaving it on somewhat of a cliffhanger like that saddened me a little bit, I quite liked that girl, even before the plotwist, so seeing her state at the end was a little disheartening. Overall, I really really enjoyed my time with this game and it's bizzare scenarios. My favorite characters were Rika, Nemu, and Kanae.

Gore Screaming Show

Gore Screaming Show is one of my favorite novels of all time. The novel is a coming of age story, and learning how to move on from your trauma. At it's core, I found the story to be extremely close hitting, and made certian scenes all the more upsetting to get through. But that's part of the beauty in this novel to me! I really liked all of the characters. My favorite is Yuka, and Kiika. I relate to Yuka in her grudge, and I can relate to all three of the main heroines in some way. Pushing through the gritty rape scenes reveals a blossoming better life for all of the girls.
Despite it's title, there's actually not that much gore in comparison to the other content in the game. There's also a filtering system to censor the gore and soften the wording of the gore. There is a high amount of rape in this game though, and no censor. This is a very dark story with a message of hope, and so I highly reccomend using caution begore jumping into the game.

You and me and her (Totono)

Totono was a game that I read as a kid. (you will see this to be true with most visual novels.) I loved it. I was also scared of it, and Miyuki. This was in 2016 I think? I thought the message behind it was so cool, and I did really love the characters, even though back then I hated Miyuki with a burning passion. I like her now... I understand where she was coming from, and I do wish she could be happy. However, I always really loved Aoi. I fell in love with her on that playthrough as an 11 year old and I've loved her ever since! It's really sad to see that the majority of the fans nowadays only really know Aoi (usually from somethig like Pinterest...) and haven't bothered to read the novel. It's really good and it's pretty short! It's maybe like 15 hours? It kind of depends on how fast you understand the puzzle in the looping section of the game.
Either way, this title is very nostalgic to me, and many of my thoughts about the game usually loop back around to my childhood. I do hope that the story can touch others like it did for me.

Distribution

Hello~! I'm so very glad someone clicked into this section of my website. I know that a lot of the content in these games make it unsavory to many people. Eithr way, if you would like to try out a novel, but do not have the means to buy the game yourself, I might be able to help you get the novel if you contact me. If you want to buy a novel for yourself, I have a handy list of links below!
